Best time to Travel |
|

 |
|
| |
The
most popular time of the year to visit Florida
is between December and May, when temperatures
average 16°C and 30°C (61°F and
86 °F) and the rains are just a few millimeters.
Miami Carnival,
at the beginning of March, is the best reason
to visit and thousands of people do so. Register
as soon as possible to enjoy the parade.
Summers are warm
and wet, with storms everyday. August is the
warmest month with temperatures around 26°C
and 31°C (79°F and 88°F). Keep
in mind that warm weather brings along 90%
humidity! However, the advantage of traveling
at the beginning of Summer, despite high temperatures
and constant rains, is the reduced number
of tourists. Hurricane season, from June 1st
to November 30th can be a good option for
your visit, but keep in mind that even a tiny
hurricane could ruin your vacation.

Miami
has two major airports, the Miami International
Airport (MIA),19 km West from downtown (12 miles)
and the Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood International
Airport (FFL), 48 km (30 miles) North from downtown.
Miami is the main entrance to the country from
Latin America.
There are numerous
airlines that travel from South America and
most major European airlines have a service
to Miami. However, there is no direct flights
from Australia or New Zealand. If you are coming
from these destinations you will probably have
to make a stop in Los Angeles and change planes.
The best way to fly
to Miami within USA is from New York, but it
is also the busiest route. Other options are
Greyhound buses (they have three main terminals
in Miami, servicing Orlando, New Orleans, Atlanta,
Washington and New York) or the train, which
connects Miami with all the cities around the
country and Canada. Prices vary constantly but
they are barely above Greyhound’s and
a lot less expensive than flying.
Miami is close
to the end of several main highways, making
it easier to arrive or depart by car. Another
gratifying way of traveling to the West of Florida
is by taking I-10, which goes through the beautiful
beaches of Pensacola and the coast of Florida.
Transportation (within
Florida and the Keys)
Miami
International
Airport is serviced by the public bus, but private
vans, taxis and limousines are a convenient
alternative. Getting to the beaches takes almost
two hours. There is also a regular bus service
from downtown Miami to the beaches, every half
to two hours.
However,
bear in mind that you will feel at a loss without
a car in Miami, more than any other place in
the world. So if you are older than 25 and hold
a major credit card, the easiest way to get
to the beaches, the keys or Miami is by renting
a car. You will really need one if you want
to get to know the area. Some car rentals offer
an hourly rate without minimum charge. You can
get a better deal by making arrangements beforehand
instead of doing it at the counter. If you arrive
in high season it is possible to find no cars
available at all. |
